Indoor XL-Trainer 110 FB in Tarporley, Cheshire
The Brief
The brief called for a pool that delivered on every front at once, combining therapeutic swimming, family fun and sophisticated entertaining within a single space, without compromising on style to achieve it.
As the pool was to be housed indoors, the client also needed the practicalities of an enclosed environment solved from the outset: ventilation, humidity control and water management all had to be addressed to a meticulous standard, so the finished room would feel as effortless to live with as it looks.
The Design
The Compass Ceramic Pools XL-Trainer 110FB was finished in Nova Grey, chosen to bring depth and warmth to the water within an indoor setting, where natural light and reflection behave differently than they do outdoors.
A Compass Pools by Waterstream Pool Pod self-contained plant room was installed alongside the pool, keeping all filtration and dosing equipment neatly housed and out of sight, a detail that mattered given the pool’s position inside the home. Granite coping stones were selected to frame the pool, their texture and colour chosen to complement the surrounding room rather than compete with it.
The One-Piece carbon ceramic shell construction that underpins every Compass pool made an indoor installation of this scale possible without the extended build times associated with traditional tiled pools, an important consideration given the project was taking place within an occupied home.
The Challenges
Bringing a pool of this scale indoors meant the usual outdoor considerations, heating, filtration, cover, were joined by a further layer of complexity around humidity and air quality that an outdoor pool does not face. Every element of the mechanical and ventilation design had to work in partnership to keep the room comfortable and the water balanced, year round.
The client wanted hassle-free pool management, so the pool is equipped with an advanced freshwater filtration package, including a pump, filter, chlorine feeder and UV system, complemented by a touchscreen auto-dosing system for precise chlorine and pH control.
A further challenge was to balance safety and energy efficiency with the pool’s aesthetic appeal. The solution was an automatic roller cover, which retains heat effectively while keeping the pool looking smart when not in use.
The Outcome
The result is an indoor pool that functions as both a striking visual centrepiece and a genuinely private, all-season retreat, proof that a well-designed indoor pool is a lifestyle enhancement rather than a luxury for its own sake.
With ventilation, humidity and water management all resolved to a meticulous standard, the client is left with a space that asks nothing of them beyond enjoying it, whether that means a therapeutic swim before work, an afternoon with the family, or entertaining guests through the depths of a Cheshire winter.
This pool was awarded a Gold Standard at the SPATA British Pools Awards 2026, and has been nominated for a EUSA 2026 European Pool and Spa Award.
