Compass Ceramic Pool Insulation

All might not be clear when buying a monopool or one-piece pools as they are sometimes called. It all comes down to the materials they are made from and you have to do some digging to really get down to the material engineering behind your new pool.

A Compass pool is a multi-layered composite that includes carbon fibre and ceramic. They are layered up as liquid and matt to produce a complete pool without any joints or welds. The surface finish is layered first in several layers akin to a metallic paint finish on a high-end car. This gives the consumer a huge choice in a durable, UV-resistant and above all beautiful finish to their new pool. Behind this is layered and molded as one piece, several structural layers that include ceramic for heat insulation, Carbon Fiber for strength or in some cheaper one-piece pools steel to reinforce.

In contrast the new kids on the block branding themselves as monopools are using a single 6-10mm layer mainly of CoPolymer plastic or HDPE which stands for High Density Polyethylene and is the same core ingredients used for plastic bags and recycled plastic products. This is delivered in sheets to the pool builder from such manufacturers as Rochline branded Polystone (ironically that contains no stone or resemblance to stone) which then is cut to size and welded together by machine (where flat sheets are used or by hand where right angles are needed. In comparison to a full composite one piece pool they are a lot less impact resistant and much more easily scratched. The colors are also usually flat and can be susceptible to chlorine damage. The nature of welding individual sections together makes them susceptible to human error in construction at the factory and on site, and thus the likelihood of leaks akin to the problems associated with welded pool liners.
How do I make sense of all this as a prospective pool owner?
Most consumers are attracted by glossy brochures with some stunning looking pools in stunning looking locations, and in truth very little can be established about the quality of construction from a picture, they all look like stunning blue rectangles!

Sometimes you can tell by comparing warranties on water tightness or even by price, as quality is never cheap.
But this is a simple one. Just ask for a material sample of your new pool. Including how it is joined. It will be quite obvious from the sample to anyone, which is the superior product in terms of quality and longevity and where the extra investment in construction is going.
