Alex Kemsley
Managing Director, Waterstream
Alex Kemsley leads Compass Pools by Waterstream, the UK’s luxury one‑piece pool specialist known for precision engineering and carbon‑ceramic technology. He oversees design, manufacturing partnerships, and delivery across residential and select commercial projects, with a focus on build quality, lifecycle efficiency, and a best‑in‑class customer experience.
After starting his career in the hot‑tub sector, Alex founded and grew Waterstream into a multi‑brand group whose portfolio includes Compass Pools and EVi Pools. Under his leadership, the business has scaled significantly, with Waterstream’s operation anchoring the Compass distribution network nationwide.
In 2025, Alex set out the next phase of Compass’s growth with a new headquarters and production facility in Coolham, West Sussex. The site combines a redesigned office environment with a dedicated pool fit‑out and plant‑room workshop that produces Compass’s signature Pool Pods—compact, pre‑fabricated plant rooms that standardise quality and speed up installations. Sustainability measures include rooftop solar, air‑source heating, and rainwater harvesting, while the expansion also provides headroom to grow beyond Waterstream’s 50‑person team.
Beyond his company roles, Alex has served the industry in multiple capacities: he sits on the ISPE Council, is a member of the SPATEX board, and previously served as BSPF President and BISHTA Chairman—positions that reflect his long‑standing commitment to technical standards, safety, and professional education across the wet‑leisure sector.
Alex’s design thinking has attracted national and international media attention. He is widely known for the Infinity London concept—a proposed 360‑degree rooftop pool for a London skyscraper—where he explained the “tube‑within‑a‑tube” access mechanism and broader safety engineering. While a concept study, it showcased the kind of problem‑solving and systems engineering that Alex brings to client work at Compass.
On the Compass blog, Alex writes about specification and construction methodology, plant‑room and hydraulic design, energy‑efficient operation, and emerging categories—such as Compass Nature natural‑water pools—where wellness and sustainability guide material and systems choices.
