Swimming pools top UK’s luxury home improvement wish list

• 70% of UK homeowners believe that owning a swimming pool would positively impact their and their family’s overall wellness, health and fitness

• Women want a swimming pool at home more than men

• Millennials are more likely to install a pool than those aged 50+

Summer in the UK continues to be a scorcher – forget the home cinema or the state-of-the-art gym; a new survey by Compass Pools UK reveals that a swimming pool is the ultimate luxury home improvement for Brits, topping the wish list for homeowners across the nation. With parts of the country hitting temperatures higher than those in Europe it is no wonder there is such a desire to cool down and dive in to your very own pool. Over half (60%) of millennials believe a home swimming pool would be a fantastic way to melt away stress and truly relax.

According to the recent survey of 2,000 Brits, Compass Pools UK by Waterstream, the UK’s leading luxury swimming pool brand, discovered that women are consistently dreaming of having their own pool, whilst men would prefer to have their own entertainment room. Over half (55%) of homeowners in London and the South East think a swimming pool is the number one luxury item they would like to have, followed by residents in the East of England (34%) and then Wales (31%).

When it comes down to the decision making, men are slightly more likely to take the plunge and install a pool (48%) compared to women (44%). Millennials are practically diving in headfirst, as a massive 74% would get a pool fitted at home vs those aged 50 and over. Geographically, Londoners are leading the charge, with 71% keen on a home pool, followed by the West Midlands (52%) and Wales (47%).
