The Three Key Pool Trends Transforming Home Life in Britain

Once reserved for a select few, swimming pools are now seen as a rewarding long-term investment. According to a new Swimming Pool Trends Report from Compass Pools by Waterstream, British homeowners are increasingly embracing pools as everyday life essentials that are enhancing wellbeing and outdoor living.

A recent OnePoll survey reveals that swimming pools are now top of the nation’s luxury home upgrade wish list (27%), surpassing home cinemas (21%) and home gyms (13%), with 29% of homeowners also recognising their potential to uplift property value. So, what’s driving this change? The report identifies three defining trends shaping the future of luxury living:

Technology-Driven Pool Ownership

Smart pool systems are set to become the standard, with sustainability considerations acting as a driving force for these advancements. An overwhelming 88% of prospective pool owners prioritise energy and water management, driving demand for technology that simplifies day-to-day care. Homeowners can now adjust heating, lighting and cleaning through voice control or mobile apps, creating a more intuitive experience. Advances in solar-assisted heating and high-performance insulation are also supporting year-round swimming, bringing a sense of everyday luxury to homes across the UK.

The Rise of Compact and Creative Design

Design conscious homeowners are increasingly turning to compact luxury pools that offer a refined aesthetic without requiring expansive grounds. Deep greys, anthracites and subtle metallic finishes are emerging as signature choices, lending a modern architectural feel to even modest spaces.

When paired with a counter-current turbine, smaller pools double as continuous lane fitness solutions, creating an elegant answer to one of the most common concerns for 28% homeowners, who see garden size as a barrier.Pools as Wellness Hubs

A growing emphasis on health and wellbeing is shaping how pools are designed and used. 70% of homeowners believe that having a swimming pool would significantly enhance their wellbeing, prompting a rise in integrated wellness zones. Pools are increasingly paired with saunas, cold plunge areas and hydrotherapy features, creating holistic environments that support relaxation, recovery and daily rituals.

“Homeowners want beauty, purpose and ease,” says Alex Kemsley, MD of Compass Pools by Waterstream. “When aesthetics, wellness and sustainable engineering align, an occasional treat can become an everyday luxury.”
